SPOILERS FROM DANDADAN!
Today I'm gonna talk about things I love: Dandadan, boys, and the boys from Dandadan. I just finished chapter 154 of Dandadan and, guys... I think I have a new favorite character. Sorry, Turbo Granny! You probably know Dandadan, the anime that became popular last year. At first I wasn't very interested in the series, but when I started watching the anime, I became obsessed. I rewatched the first season about six times and, when I saw a Brazilian YouTuber i know reading the manga in live, my obsession increased even more. Because if the anime was good, the manga is just FUCKING PEAK! The pages flow so smoothly, the art is incredible, and the arcs that haven't been adapted into anime yet... my friend, they're heartbreaking, but also amazing! A few weeks ago, I got into the arc where, after Okarun loses his ball again, he and Momo discover it's with a guy named "Unji Zuma." They go to the school this guy attends and find several delinquents who, at first, are jerks to them, but start to be nicer when Momo talks to them (being badass af) and they agree to help them find Zuma because they don't want to hit Momo for being a girl. So they go, trying to find Zuma, until they find a board game that traps people in it. Yeah, just an average Dandadan arc, lol. Anyway, they find an old man who got trapped in the game as a child and they talk about some things, blah, blah, blah (I won't specify everything because this isn't a review) and Momo ends up trapped in the game unintentionally. And then, my guys... it's when the best Dandadan arc so far (in my opinion) REALLY BEGINS! Momo discovers that the people who get trapped in the game are placed in a kind of "rpg". It's really a rpg, lol. There are even some silly frog npcs. Anyway, while she's figuring out how this world works, she ends up trapped in something sticky, I guess (don't really remember this part very well), while a kind of giant knight tries to kill her. And she can't use her psychic powers to defeat it. So, while Momo is thinking about what to do, HE appears. "Who appears? Okarun?" Of course not! Better than Okarun! The best character from Dandandan, the G.O.A.T, Unji Zuma! Yes, he was in the game, I forgot to mention, but Zuma kind of volunteered to enter that world to destroy it and prevent anyone from getting trapped again. And he really was with Okarun's ball, lol. He saves Momo with his "spiritual form," I don't know how call it, but he has a form similar to Okarun and Aira when they use their yokai's powers. And with this form, he has some fucking cool and badass umbrellas as weapons, and he beat that knight like it was a rat! He and Momo leave that sticky place, and Momo says she's looking for a guy named "Unji Zuma," and he just reply, "Okay, then, because I am Unji Zuma." And I'll be honest, guys, at first I looked at him and thought, "This guy? really?". But I paid dearly for every first impression I had of him! Anyway, Momo was glad to have found Zuma without much effort, like, he came to her himself, lmao. And she was direct about her goal, like: "Listen bro, I know you have my friend's ball, but I need it back." And he calmly replied: "Ok, but I need it to use my powers in this world, so when I destroy the whole world you can have it back. 👍" And they just became friends. Momo wanted to leave that world and get Okarun's ball back, so she decided she was gonna help Zuma destroy the world, lol. And it was at that moment that my impression of him, and also the impression that the other characters gave us, simply crumbled. Because Zuma is fucking dumb. Like, he's strong and badass, for sure, but the other characters talked about him in a way that made me think that when Momo or Okarun met him, he would immediately start fighting with them. But, in reality, he was quite understanding of Momo's goals, and he has that kind of "strong character who acts stupid syndrome," haha. Honestly, I think that's charming, and it also gave me some good laughs because his dynamic with Momo is very funny. I know that many people interpret them romantically, but, in my view, they are like an older sister and a younger brother. Not literally, of course, but their relationship seems that way to me. and c'mon guys! Momo loves Okarun as Okarun also does! Ok? Ok. So the manga shows us some cute and funny interactions between Momo and Zuma as they try to destroy the game. Meanwhile... Okarun and Zuma's friends have already entered the game to save them, lmao. Chapter by chapter, I started like Zuma more and more. And it became increasingly difficult to keep Turbo Granny as my favorite character. Of course, she's iconic, but she has cool umbrellas and shaved head? That intrigued me quite a bit, because characters with shaved heads don't usually appeal to me much, but after Zuma, I started to see it as a green flag, hehe. Anyway... Momo and her new friend Zuma participate in more and more rpg battles, discover silly powers that some cards give them, until they reach the final act. A battalion of 600 enemies, I guess. (The funny thing is that the YouTuber I follow for the Dandadan readings counted all the characters drawn on the page and it came to way much more than 600, lol. He was indignant.) Momo and Zuma rolled some dice and their battalion of npcs got about 200, I guess, lmao. Anyway, they gave rpg categories to the battalion and also to themselves and started a really cool strategic battle, which I thought was pretty well done, despite being kinda simple. I forgot to mention, but the main objective of the final battle was "to defeat the enemies and destroy a crystal that was in a castle, I guess (sorry, guys, my memory is terrible, hehe)." They did really well in the battle against the normal npcs, until some FUCKED UP GIANT CREATURES started appearing! Seriously, guys... I laughed so hard at that part because of their design, hahaha! It wasn't bad, on the contrary! Dandadan's art is awesome and creative, but their design was funny, i was like "poor Zuma and Momo, man... lol". Anyway, usually when the protagonist of a manga is in a massive danger, some character(s) appears to save them, and it was no different here. Okarun, with Turbo Granny and a bunch of delinquents (Zuma's friends) came to save them. FINALLY, HUH!? I know they were jerks to Okarun and Momo a few moments ago, but I gave in, I like them! While the delinquents fought, Momo and Zuma went to the castle to destroy the crystal and end it once and for all. But... just as they had destroyed it, Okarun appeared, running faster than light with Turbo Granny on his shoulder. and she said that the crystal was actually a cursed object, preventing the entity that domain that world revealing his true face. And now the crystal is gone; he was free. And true CHAOS began... the real final boss of the game was a giant, bizarre creature with many cards connected to his body and a creepy face. He revealed that the entire rpg game he had created was just a way to get people to release him, so he could destroy everything. And unfortunately, he's very smart and very strong. From what I understand, he can influence people's minds. Reminding delinquents of their cruel pasts, he says there's no place for them in the real world, so why bother? When you can live forever in his game world, he can make everything perfect. And by touching on people's wounds and making them vulnerable, he turns them into his puppets. With something strange attached to their bodies, like an armor or something like that, he makes them fight to the death. Just by influencing their bad feelings, bringing their anger to the light. And that son of a bitch did that to Zuma. Yes, he actually managed to control Zuma's body, and the anger inside him was so great that it turned him into a very powerful enemy for Okarun, Momo, and anyone who dared to cross his path. And that son of a bitch kept saying, "This isn't my fault, this is Zuma's true desire. He wants to destroy the world." When I first read this, I didn't want to accept it. "No, it can't be! He's trying to influence Okarun and Momo's minds!" But when I saw Zuma's past, I understood everything... that he really had reasons to feel that anger inside him. My friends... Zuma's past is one of the deepest in Dadadan! I can't even express it in words, but if you read it, you know what I'm talking about. And if you're reading this and haven't read Dadadan yet, do it! It's really worth it, and the experience of discovering a character's past is unique. The life of a child who slowly became a delinquent because all he received in life was suffering. He really had no more reason to maintain faith in humanity. And even after all that, see that he was still a good person who cared about his friends, it makes me just want to hug him. Zuma deserves more love in the Dadadan fandom!! Everyone talks about Momo, Okarun, Aira, Jiji, Vamola, but Zuma??? He's already my favorite character! I fucking love this guy! I haven't had this type of connection with a character since Neji from Naruto. And yes, seeing my pattern go from "traumatized middle-class teenager with long hair" to "traumatized delinquent teenager with shaved head" is kinda funny to me. But I still think both Neji and Zuma are great characters who deserved more recognition in their fandoms. (But of course, Zuma suffered much more than Neji.)
And that's it! I just wanted to express my love for Zuma, Dandadan, and Yukinobu Tatsu's work. I really didn't want to change the order of my icons again, but I'm seriously considering replacing one of them to Zuma, because the characters in my icons are my favorites and I don't want to be unfair to my boy Unji Zuma. I don't know, I'm thinking about it. Anyway... goodnight everyone! Let's all love Dandadan.
Update: I think i may be confused things a bit, guys... i guess Zuma's friends are not the same that was jerks to Okarun and Momo at beginning of the arc and even harassed Momo. Sorry Zuma's friends!
