There is a classic work in Brazil, written by a man named José Bento Renato Monteiro Lobato, or just Monteiro Lobato. Born in Taubaté, he created one of the most popular children's literature works in Brazil, known as "Sítio do Pica-pau Amarelo" (Yellow Woodpecker Farm). He wrote many books set in this fantastic universe that takes place on a farm. There are many elements of Brazilian folklore and diverse scenery that I loved to appreciate as a child. Besides the books, Sítio do Pica-pau Amarelo inspired a live-action television series and, some time later, an animated cartoon. The live action series had two or three versions, I don't remember exactly, but I remember lying on my mother's bed watching the version that aired that age on a old tube TV. I used to spend hours with my eyes fixed on the TV, but I wasn't very interested in the books. Until my mom showed me a book she kept, called "Reinações de Narizinho volume 1" (Narizinho's Adventures volume 1 or smth like that). Narizinho is the protagonist of the Sítio do Pica-pau Amarelo series, along with her alive doll Emília and her cousin Pedrinho. And it was a book with an fucking beautiful cover; I remember the details to this day. I used to pick up the book just to admire the cover, but one day my mom decided to read it to me. We read a little of the book every night before I went to sleep because it was a large book. And as a child who always loved surrealism, I adored looking at the illustrations in that book. If I remember the story correctly, it was about Narizinho going to the depths of the sea (or lake, I don't remember exactly) with Emília because she was going to marry a fish prince she was in love with, or smth like that. And the representation of the depths of the sea/lake in this book was something surreal and stunningly beautiful. And I have a complaint about this book. In some versions of Sítio do Pica-pau Amarelo, the fish prince, whose name I've forgotten, was hot, but in this book he looks like a normal fish, (ugly)!

But anyway, despite Monteiro Lobato was being a terrible person and having included his racist thoughts in the subtext of some of his books, the Sítio do Pica-pau Amarelo series marked my childhood. And Reinações de Narizinho was one of the books that encouraged me to read more. And tonight I remembered my mom and my brother about this book, and they both wanted to find it again, but unfortunately we couldn't find it anywhere. This made my mom want to buy another one online (she really loved that book).

I wonder where my book is now. I don't know if my mother gave it to someone or if she threw it away accidentally, but neither of us could forget this book since I brought this topic to light. Let's see, if my mom really buys another one, I could even write a review to ease the longing. :)
